Switched to draft journal article

I've made the decision to switch my attention from my methods chapter to tell draft article simulation &gaming.  I reckon it won't take to long to revise, and I can get it off my agenda.  I also take the view that any writing is better than no writing, and I was kind of stuck with the methods chapter.

I'm slightly concerned  about he framework chapter, mainly because I've done no preparatory reading for it.  That's for another day, though. Right now I need to concentrate on the draft article first, and then my methods chapter.

I need to get into the habit of writing every day, no matter what else needs to be done or what else is happening.  It's the only way I'm.going to.have a chance of finishing in any reasonable time, or at all.  I also need to be doing more free writing.  It's great for just getting me "warmed up" and ready for some more structured writing.  Those two things, I think, are crucial t o success.

Meetings bloody meetings

Feeling a bit frustrated because I haven't been able to do any writing on my PhD today because of meetings.  This is a novel feeling for me.  I'm convinced that the approach of writing something every day will be a major step forward in terms of productivity.  I'm also interested in what Rowena Murray says about free writing.  It's a valid point that it has to be done for a reasonable period of time if any real change in practice is to be achieved.

Well that was relatively successful.  I now have >4000 words in my draft thesis, admiittedly mostly copied from other documents, but it's a start.  My technique was to use Scrivener with Pomodroido on my phone to keep me focussed.  Not entirely pain-free, but much, much better than procrastination!

The key thing, I think, is to try to write a bit every day.  If I can keep that up I think I'll make good progress.

It's time to turn pro

I was really worried when Mark told me that the time had come to start writing my thesis.  That was a couple of weeks ago.  Since then I've been procrastinating and stressing about it.  I went to the vitae conference at Glasgow uni yesterday, and one of the presenters spoke about "the war of art" by Stephen Pressfield. Brilliant book.  An inspiration.

Time to turn pro!
